40-Hour Site Safety (Licensee Qualification)

The 40-Hour Site Safety course is a NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) department-approved training program designed to meet the site safety training requirements for individuals pursuing safety management roles on construction and demolition sites in New York City.

This course is one of the required training prerequisites for applicants seeking to apply for:

• Site Safety Manager (SSM) Certificate

• Site Safety Coordinator (SSC) Certificate

• Construction Superintendent Registration

Who Should Take This Course

This course is intended for:

• Individuals planning to apply for a Site Safety Manager or Site Safety Coordinator certificate

• Construction professionals pursuing Construction Superintendent registration

• Safety professionals, supervisors, and managers responsible for site safety compliance

• Employers training personnel for management-level safety responsibilities on NYC job sites

Course Duration & Format

• Total Instruction Time: 40 hours

• Format: In-person classroom training

• Class Size: 1–50 participants

• Scheduling: Sessions may be delivered over multiple days in accordance with DOB requirements

Important Notice

Completion of this course does not grant a license or certification by itself.

Students must meet additional NYC DOB requirements, including but not limited to:

• Required work experience

• Valid SST Supervisor Card (where applicable)

• Passing applicable DOB examinations

• Submission of documentation to the NYC DOB Licensing Unit

Upon successful completion, students will receive a Certificate of Completion issued by a DOB-approved course provider, which may be submitted to NYC DOB as part of the application process.
